I’m a geek who wants to give back to the community after spending years just taking from it.
I never tried to blog much before and especially not professionally. That’s most likely because I feel like I shouldn’t clutter up the internet with techno-babble unless I know what I’m talking about. So I’ve been working in my field for several years now and it recently occurred to me that I am no longer the youngest person among my peers.
It’s not much, but I think I have something to say now.
Background:
I’ve been in IT since 1996 and I became a systems administrator in 1999. As an admin, I’ve spent a lot of time with small companies that have hybrid environments. Meaning, combining Microsoft technology with open source technology. The reason for doing this is most often cost. If you’re low on money and you can satisfy a technical need with open-source instead of paying for licenses, that’s the way you’re going to go. This all means that you’re going to see a lot of variance from me in terms of technical subject matter.
Spinning Plates:
You’ve all been there. You have so many things going on that you can’t finish anything without something else falling apart. So you just run around and satisfy little bits of things so that they don’t fall apart. To me, it’s like being a circus plate spinner. I run around like mad and spin the things as best I can but the job is never done.
